Music
At Advent, we believe music to be a form of prayer, uniting the Body in one voice. Because music can move our souls in ways that even words cannot, we can use it to express our deepest prayers, longings and joys to God. The mission of the music program at Advent is to enhance and enrich our liturgical worship with beautiful, reflective and appropriate hymns, anthems and musical offerings. The choir's part in that mission is to support the congregation in their sung prayers and to offer special anthems.
John Blecha is the Music Director.
Adult Choir
The Adult Vocal Choir welcomes
all interested singers willing to make a commitment to attend weekly rehearsals.
We rehearse each Wednesday from 7:30 - 8:30 PM and between services on Sunday
mornings at 9:30. We participate in worship as a choir each Sunday (10:15
service during most of the year, 9:00 service during the summer months) except
when the youth choirs are leading in worship. We also participate in special
services.
AdventKids Youth Choir
Our Youth Choir (Age 4 and up) meets
from 9:00 AM - 9:25 AM on Sunday mornings. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child
to learn to enjoy vocal music and be a participant in the church service
at an early age!
Many of our older youth participate as instrumentalists during the 10:15 service with solos, solo with piano or organ, and various ensembles.
Instrumental Music
We make use of whatever talents are available, and
have used a wide variety of string, brass, woodwind, and percussive instuments.
Chimes are sometimes included. Younger pre-instrumental members often
participate using recorders.
Contact John Blecha about instrumental opportunities
at Advent.
Ringers
Sunday Psalm Ringers meet
prior to the 10:15 service in the back of the Sanctuary. They rehearse accompaniment
(on ChoirChimes™) for the Psalm tone appointed. Chimers move to the chime
table during the reading of the first lesson.
