Our Music Program

Music at Church of the Advent

The Music Program at Church of the Advent seeks to be a channel of God’s Grace:

  • assisting choirs and congregations to sing with both mind and heart;
  • engaging and encouraging singers and other parish musicians to offer their best in worship;
  • embracing the rich heritage of Christian music and passing that heritage on to future generations;
  • exploring creative and new ways to express faith in God through music.

Our Music Program

A sung service of The Holy Eucharist is offered at 10:15 on Sunday mornings.  The singing is accompanied principally by our Roger’s Prestige organ and Steinway B grand piano.  The church also owns a set of hand chimes that are especially useful in accompanying psalms or plainsong hymns.  Volunteer instrumentalists from the parish and occasional guest musicians also contribute to our musical offerings.

Choir

We have a small, but very dedicated choir.  Their main role is one of leadership – enabling the congregation to sing with more confidence and vitality.  They also work to prepare anthems that provide musical and spiritual depth to our services.

  The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m. (9:30 from June to mid August) and seasonally on Saturday mornings for Morning Prayer, an extended rehearsal, and brunch.

While music reading ability or prior choir experience is helpful, the only requirement for membership is the ability to match pitch (i.e., carry a tune) and regular attendance at rehearsals.

If you think you might be interested in joining the choir, newcomers are welcome to sit in on a few rehearsals without commitment.
